First Step Towards Spiritual Path – The Most Difficult Decision
First step towards Spiritual Pathis the most difficult decision to take. You must be wondering how to start it. If you are really serious about starting your journey in the right way, then there has to be a starting point.
First Step Towards Spiritual Path
What is the first step towards Spiritual Path?
The Spiritual Pathis like milestone. You keep achieving it one by one and it will form a strong fundamental base. Once you have covered your base with four to five strong fundamental principles, then overall the spiritual edifice will come up nicely and will be long lasting too. You are then paving your way for a beautiful life.
The First Step Towards Spiritual Path – The 1st Rule
If you are taking the first step towards Spiritual Path, then there are rules to it which if you follow faithfully, you will definitely be successful on this path. So, let’s start.
The first rule on this path is as far as possible try to remain silent. I know that it is very difficult mainly if you have the habit of talking a lot but it is for your advantage only. People will convince you to buy their point of view. Just accept it.
There is a great learning in every experience. If you don’t accept it as it is, you will limit your possibilities.
Know that whatever has to happen,
happens for the best.
It is very difficult to digest but with experience, you will gain wisdom and will come to understand that it is the desire of the Universe. That’s your growth. Till then, your ego will keep taking you to all kind of unnecessary journey. Finally, with all the trials and tribulations, you will understand how to remain silent.
The key here is to understand the play of the Ego. Ego wants to do many things such as feel important and be a leader. That’s the trap. We are all victims of the inner turmoil. We always listen with our mind, not ears and we see via our mind, not eyes. So here, what you hear and see depend upon your frustrations, anger and greed. The best solution is that you have to be empty of all thoughts, then only the thought of the Universe will enter and work through you (the physical body).
The First Step Towards Spiritual Path – The 2nd Rule
Speak the Truth
The second rule on the first step towards Spiritual Path is to Speak the Truth. If you have a slightest of doubt, you should not say it. Only if you are absolutely certain about it, the words should come out of it and that too if necessary. Be very careful that your truth does not harm anybody. If your words are going to hurt anyone, and create problems, best is to avoid it.
The First Step Towards Spiritual Path – The 3rd Rule
You should desist from speaking if it is bad about somebody or it is not doing any good to somebody. Speak only if it is beneficial. Don’t find faults in others. Loose talks should be a strict ‘NO’. You cannot even imagine to what extent it can damage your well being. What to say, the consequences are mind blowing. You will end up paying a heavy price for your unnecessary chattering and gossips. You will probably understand the implications with the Danger story which I am going to share with you.
Once there was a king who used to distribute food to the Brahmanas (Priests). One day, as he was giving food to the priests, an eagle flew above holding a dead snake in its claws. Out of the mouth of the dead snake fell a drop of poison into the food that the king was distributing.
No one knew or saw that this had happened, so the king continued on distributing the food.
The priest who accidentally got the poisoned food from the king died and the king was feeling very sad about it.
One of the servants of Yamaraj(the God of Death) who has the service to distribute Karma to the living beings has a problem. When this incident with the king and the poisoned food happened, however, he did not know who to give this Karma to.
After all, it was not the eagle’s fault that it carried the dead snake in its claws (since this was its food), nor was it the dead’s snake fault, nor was it the king’s fault because he did not know that the poison fell into the food.
However, one day, few other brahmanas entered the kingdom in order to meet the king.
A lady was sitting next to the road and they asked her: “Do you know where the king’s palace is and how we can get there?”
She said: “Yes” and pointed at the right direction. “But, be very careful,” she said, “the king is known to kill brahmanas!”
The moment she said that and criticized the king unrightfully, that moment the servant of Yamaraj has decided. He gave her the karma of killing the death brahmana!
Moral of the story:
If you criticize anyone and you are right about their deeds, you get half of their bad karma.
But, if you criticize someone and you are not right about their deeds, then you get 100% of their karma.
This story can inspire us to be careful about what we think or say about other people and devotees.
To sum it up, whenever you talk, take a triple test:
Whatever you are going to tell, is it absolutely true?
Is it Good about someone or something?
Is it useful to someone?
If the answer is Yes, then, go ahead otherwise remain silent.
This simple technique will go a long way in building a good strong fundamental base.
